KAMPALA - Court has issued an arrest warrant for Joseph Magandazi Yiga, the proprietor of the land dealership Jomayi Property Consultants over a sh87m debt owed as accumulated commission to a land broker Andrew Maviiri.

The warrant, a copy of which Saturday Vision has obtained, was issued on Thursday by the assistant registrar of the execution and bailiffs division of the High Court in Kampala, Muhammad Kasakya.

“These are to command you to arrest the said judgement-debtor and unless the said judgement debtor shall pay to you the sum of sh87,026,000,” the warrant dated November 6, reads.

Adding: “This serves to request every Police officer of the Uganda Police Force to ensure that the execution is done in an orderly manner.”

It adds that Yiga must also pay costs for the services of the bailiff Musa Luwambya, who operates under the trading name Madrilo Associates, Court Bailiffs and Auctioneers.

The warrant expires on December 6, a day on which the court is expected to be informed on whether the warrant has been executed or reasons for failure, in the event that it fails.

The debt stemmed from an accumulated commission that Yiga failed to advance to Maviiri after purchasing over 400 acres of land at Buloba Kisamula on Mityana road in 2007.

Maviiri told Saturday Vision that at this stage, it is inevitable Yiga must pay the money, or face the embarrassment of committal to prison for six months.

“I risked my life convincing the squatters to leave the land, and my role was very instrumental, but Yiga is unappreciative,” Maviiri said.

Efforts to seek a comment from Yiga were futile. However, his son Charles Kasozi, told Saturday Vision that he (Kasozi) was aware of the warrant, but that his father was yet to be informed about it.

“I am aware of it (warrant) but he (Yiga) has not yet known about it. I am trying to contact him,” Kasozi said.
