Massa, Sentamu shortlisted for CAF African player of the year

Uganda Cranes stars Geoffrey Massa and Yunus Sentamu have been shortlisted by CAF for the African player of the year award (based in Africa) category

Uganda Cranes stars Geoffrey Massa and Yunus Sentamu have been shortlisted by CAF for the African player of the year award (based in Africa) category.

Sentamu who plays for AS Vita in DR Congo makes the list for helping his club reach the CAF Champions League final.

The former Vipers FC striker was also instrumental in Cranes' squad during the CHAN Finals in South Africa early this year where he scored three goals.

Massa’s four goals in AFCON qualifiers was one of the major reasons why CAF shortlisted the striker. He also leads the goal scoring chart in this year's campaign alongside Benin’s Stephen Sessegnon and Burkina Faso’s Jonathan Pitroipa.

The 28 year old- forward’s goals at University of Pretoria in South Africa have also grossed him a place on the list.

Massa was placed in the 11 position while Sentamu took the 20th place.

CAF also released another list Twenty-five (25) players based from outside the continent for the African Player of the Year, and 20 for the Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category.

The winners of the two categories will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF.

The Awards Gala will take place on Thursday, 8 January 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Ivorian Yaya Toure was crowned African Player of the Year for the past three years while Mohamed Aboutreika of Egypt was named African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) last year.
