UCE star performing schools ranked

A number of schools overshadowed their districts by having the highest number of star candidates who passed in Division One, in last year’s Senior Four national examinations.

Saturday Vision ranked the best 20 candidates in each district, but some districts with the best stars in the whole country were accorded more than 20 students in the ranking.

The analysis shows that most of the star candidates in national examinations were from selected traditional and private schools in some districts.

Schools which proved giants in their own districts, by swallowing up almost all the top slots include St. Mary’s Kitende and Uganda Martyrs SS, Namugongo in Wakiso, Mt. St. Mary’s SS Namagunga, Seeta High, Namilyango College, Greenlight Islamic and Nakaseke International College in Mukono.

Other schools which overshadowed other counterparts with the best candidates in their districts include, Stella Maris College Nsube in Nkokonjeru, Ngora High School in Ngora district, Immaculate Heart Girls School and Sedes Sapientiae in Rukungiri and Nkubo SS in Zirobwe.

In Kigumba district, it was Kigumba Intensive and Kigumba Parents which passed out the highest number of school candidates in Division One.

It should be noted that UNEB districts are different from the current political districts.

This implies that some schools automatically fell under certain districts according to the classification of the national examinations board. This is because, these are the districts in which these schools were captured at the time they were registering their examination centres.

Ntare School and Maryhill were the best in Mbarara district. Serwanga-Lwanga was the best in Kalangala, Kyansi Modern in Bukomansimbi, St. Andrea Kahwa in Hoima and Bugungu SS in Bullisa.

In several other districts, there was an equal share of slots amongst the available top performing schools.

This year, the performance dropped and there were only 7.2% students who passed in Division One.

This analysis captured all the results of all schools that were the best in each district; no matter how they performed. This means that even the worst performing candidates in the country ranking were also captured, as long as they were the best in their district.

Senior Five candidates are expected to start school on March 4, after the selection exercise, which will take place next week in Kampala.

All head teachers are expected to turn up for this selection process.
