Stephen Kiprotich will beside Uganda’s colours also be flying the East African Community flag at the New York marathon on Sunday.

Kiprotich and Kenyan stars Wilson Kipsang and Edna Kiplagat will be doubling up as ambassadors of Afrika Mashariki Fest.

Afrika Mashariki Fest (AMF) is a youth platform to fast track the East African Community integration.

“Besides their national flags, they also travelled with the EAC flag,” explained AMF founder Ronex Kisembo, who was at the Jomo Kenya international airport on Tuesday night to see off the trio.

The three athletes, who travelled together with defending champion, Geoffrey Mutai, arrived in New York on Wednesday and had by Thursday started acclimatizing to the cold weather.

Kipsang is a former world record holder while Edna Kiplagat is a two time world champion.

Kiprotich will be up against some of the biggest names of long distance running. World record holder Dennis Kimetto and former London marathon winner Kipsang and 2013 world marathon majors $500,000 jackpot winner Tsegayet Kebede are some of the big names in action.

Kiprotich finished 12 in last year’s race but believes he is in a much shape this time. He has for the past two months been training in Eldoret, Kenya together with Kipsang and Kiplagat.
