The Management and Staff of Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) wish to congratulate His Excellency Y.K Museveni and the NRM government upon marking 27 years of peace, development and transformation in Uganda.

NRM government support has enabled UIRI make giant strides in meeting its mandate and to perform beyond expectations. To this end, UIRI has been designated East African Community (EAC) Centre of Excellence status in Industrial Research and Applied Sciences.

This recognition is a vote of confidence in UIRI's progress and technical contribution to the development and use of technology as a tool for socio-economic transformation of the region.

In yet another spectacular achievement, KATI FARMS LTD an incubate producing fish sausages at UIRI won a best incubation project award at the European Market Research Centre (EMRC) Agribusiness Forum in Dakar, Senegal.

Another notable achievement is UIRI’s collaboration with the Council for scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of South Africa. The institute has embarked on a project on Essential Oils production for commercial application.

The relationship between UIRI and CSIR is a culmination of efforts by the Presidents of Uganda and South Africa, the leadership of the respective Ministries of Trade and Industry in both countries, as well as the technocracy in the two governments.

Essential oils are extracts from aromatic plants that can be used in the manufacture of perfumes, fragrances, cosmetics and aromatherapy products, with an estimated demand of 600 tons per annum on the European market alone.

In furtherance of this collaboration, the Engineering Division at UIRI has successfully fabricated a mobile essential oil extraction technology.

In regard to business incubation UIRI’s approach relies on offering a cocktail of services to various entrepreneurs.

The Institute’s incubatees have been afforded the opportunity to develop and commercialize well packaged quality products such as Justjoy Juice, Mega Fresh Milk, Nile Coffee, Nzori Juice Concentrate, Amagara Skin Care cosmetic products, to mention but a few.

The Mushroom Training and Resource Center (MTRC) in Kabale is now also certified to export mushrooms to the United Kingdom market Special thanks go to H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda Y K Museveni and the NRM government, for continued support towards industrialization of Uganda.
