First Deputy Prime Minister, Eriya Kategaya is “steadily improving,” according to Information Minister Karooro Okurut, who on Tuesday refuted media reports that the former Rwampara County MP is in critical condition.

“He is making steady recovery. I talked to him this morning,” Karooro told New Vision on Tuesday without further clarification about how long the first Deputy Premier and East African affairs minister will remain admitted.

Kategaya was early last week admitted in Nairobi hospital suffering from an unspecified ailment, forcing government to issue a statement about his health after conflicting reports about his condition.

“We appeal to those churning out such falsehoods to restrain themselves and if there is any query they should not hesitate to get in touch with the Minister of Information and National Guidance,” Karooro said in a statement last Wednesday.

Karooro also revealed that Internal Affairs minister, Hillary Onek who was taken ill  after suffering a stroke was discharged from Medanta Hospital in India on Saturday 19th 2013 and is now an outpatient.

Onek was received at Entebbe International Airport at 1:00pm by his family members. He flew in aboard the Emirates.
