Prisons hopes of winning the National Netball League where shattered over the weekend after they lost to defending champions National Insurance Corporation (NIC) at Namboole.

The wardresses needed to beat NIC on Saturday to stay in contention for the title but after a 44-41 defeat, Prisons coach Imelda Nyongesa is convinced that the title has slipped out of their hands.

“We tried our best but they proved to be a better side so we just have to fight and see that we don’t lose any other game as we eye second place,” Nyongesa said.

NIC’s Peace Proscovia played an instrumental role to her team’s victory scoring 32 goals amidst tight pressure from their opponents in a game that stood at 22-20 in favour of the insurance side at half time.

Proscovia’s teammates Hadijja Nakabuye and Rachael Nanyonga who were returning from a two month ban for indiscipline, jointly added 12 goals for the victors as NIC solidified their position on top of the table standings.
