Namakula maintains lead at ladies golf open

Flavia Namakula returned one-under-par 71 to maintain her lead after day-two of the Uganda Ladies Open at Kitante on Friday.

Flavia Namakula returned one-under-par 71 to maintain her lead after day-two of the Uganda Ladies Open at Kitante on Friday.

Namakula, a two time champion hit 4 birdies and three bogeys to improve her day-one scores by a stroke and is eight strokes better than defending champion Angel Eaton who produced the best scores (69) of the day.

Despite the eight-stroke lead Namakula said it wasn’t a comfortable one and said she will have to replicate her performance over the two days in order to win.

“I’ll need all the confidence and stay calm. The pressure will be there but I know how to handle it. I’m excited to be where I am but I will have to be consistent because I feel in control,” Namakula said.

In what was definitely the performance of the day, Eaton who played with a muscle cramp improved her day-one performance by 13 strokes, having returned 82 on the first day.

Iddi Madina is third at 157 gross while Zimbabwe’s Loyce Chingono is fourth at 158 gross.

Regular contender Eva Magala was among the improving lot and is lying 5th after improving her day-one score by four strokes.

The tournament ends tomorrow with the final round alongside the men’s subsidiary event.

The three-day event is sponsored by Sheraton, Crown Beverages, Castle Lite, UAP, Pinnacle Security, Motor care, MTN and Kenya Ports Authority.
