Kenyan national nabbed in sh3m phone fraud

POLICE is holding a Kenyan national over allegations of stealing 12 pieces of mobile phones worth sh3m from a city shop.

Police said, a private security guard attached to Securex intercepted the suspect at the exit gate as he tried to flee the scene which led to his arrest.

The law enforcers have identified the suspect as, Panul Lubanga Ochomo and he was arrested last week Friday at Midcom shop on Acacia Avenue. Ochomo is being held at Kira road Police Station waiting to plead before Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on Monday on theft charges. 

“The different phone of Nokia make are of different costs ranging from sh55,000 to sh220,000 each,” Vikash Chandra Srivastava the Securex country Manager revealed.

Chandra added that, Ochomo came in as a client who wanted to purchase a phone but later gained access and started stealing.

“CCTV camera’s recorded Ochomo while stealing, its part of the evidence we gave to Police awaiting prosecution,” Chandra said.

“Ochomo’s arrest is a result of use of CCTV cameras that Securex renders to its Clients.” he added
