Now Nebanda boyfriend denies killing her

The boyfriend of dead MP, Cerinah Nebanda overturns his plea, just a day after admitting he killed her.

KAMPALA - Adam Kalungi Sulaiman, the boyfriend of the former Butalega woman MP, Cerinah Nebanda has pleaded not guilty to all charges levied against him by the state.

Kalungi on Monday pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter.

Kalungi who has hired three private lawyers on Tuesday denied the charges of man slaughter, unlawful possession of narcotic drugs, the supply and dispensing of restricted drugs, contrary to the National Drug Policy Act.

He appeared before the Makindye magistrate Esther Nambayo.

He was remanded to Luzira until January 15, when he will be brought back to court with his other co-accused for further mention.

When Kalungi appeared before Makindye Court Chief Magistrate on Monday , the clerk read out the charge to him stating; "You , Adam Kalungi Sulaiman alias Luli   together  with  Ali Omar Alimuzahim, Khan Babu Abdul, Noor Abubakar, Abid Rashied Butt   and Fatuma Babu  on December 14, 2012 at Buziga Makindye  division in  the Kampala district unlawfully caused the death of Hon . Cerinah Nebanda contrary to section 187 and 190 of the penal code."

He was asked by the magistrate whether what was read out to him was true, to which he instantly responded; "It is true."
However,  the magistrate did not make any further ruling  on the matter instead adjourned the case to today Tuesday to enable Sulaiman get a lawyer to represent him.

Under the Penal Code, any person who is found guilty of the offence of manslaughter is liable to 20 years imprisonment. Manslaughter is killing someone unintentionally.

Kalungi is also facing other charges of being in possession of narcotic drugs, supplying and dispensing of restricted drug contrary to National Drug Policy Authority Act.

Kalungi co-accused Ali Omar Alimuzahim, Khan Babu Abdul, Noor Abubakar, Abid Rashied Butt and Fatuma who are also facing charges of unlawful possession of narcotic drugs were charged on December 30, 2012 and remanded in Luzira prison until January15 when they will re-appear in court.
