FUFA’s financial troubles could have finally been sorted. The soccer governing body is always cash strapped in international campaigns.

But with arguably the biggest gate collections ever, FUFA is certainly now in a strong financial position.

A sh150m earlier offer from the Education and Sports Ministry for the away match against Togo, has been boosted with a further offer of 350m.

Federation officials were all smiles as the money was announced at Saturday’s match.

Record gate collection

But even further lifting FUFA’s spirits, was a record of over sh1bn in gate collections.

With an estimated crowd of over 60,000 at Namboole, a total of at least sh1.2bn must have been collected. That is of course using the sh20, 000 ticket as a basis of calculation. But you also had sh50, 000 pavilion seats and sh120, 000 VIP tickets.

True, FUFA sold off its rights to a promoter. But even then, it must have bargained for a hefty pay out.

No serious minded person would have missed the huge money minting potential of the match.

Adebayor factor

The Cranes had just held Ghana away. They then beat Guinea at Namboole.

Then of course, there was also the Emmanuel Adebayor factor. These two factors had almost every sports loving Ugandan in the mood for Namboole. People from as far as Adjumani came to Namboole to have a glimpse of the Tottenham Hotspur star.
