Etop gives back at Soroti Hospital on Christmas

The staff of Etop on Christmas day distributed food items and soap and radios to patients undergoing treatment at Soroti referral hospital to liven their spirits on their hospital beds.

Mothers of the babies born on the commemorative day were among the beneficiaries of the Christmas package that the radio and newspaper had organized.

“I am grateful for the hamper. I came from Dokolo and I had no hopes of eating rice but thanks to God that he has brought you at the time of need,” said Elizabeth Opige who gave birth to a bouncing baby girl.

Four babies were delivered between midnight and 1pm on Christmas in Soroti but medical personnel were expecting more since some women were in labor ward.

The station manager Joseph Akiiso said they donated the Christmas items to the patients because most of them have spent most (or all) their money on treatment and had nothing left for food.

“We can’t forget people in the hospital because they require love and care from us who are able. I know this is not enough but it can make a difference,” Akiiso said.

Patients from Ward Four, Children’s Ward and male wards that received gifts expressed gratitude to the station for recognizing them at such a difficult time.

“Your presence here has given me hope that I will heal soon, said 73-year-old Gabudesio Adepo. “I am happy for your support and I pray God to reward you abundantly.”

He received soap and a radio set.

Destitute children from Soroti town were beneficiaries of soap and sugar as part of Etop’s social responsibility role.
