THE Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Wakiso, Ian Kyeyune, has said that President Yoweri Museveni is the best person to lead Uganda because he is a visionary and knows what the country needs.

Speaking at the opening of Kids Pioneer School in Entebbe, Kyeyune said that Museveni realized the importance of education in the development of Uganda and liberalized it.

He liberalized the education sector such that private schools exist alongside the public ones with an enabling environment. This has paved way for many private schools and ultimately promoted the quality education in the country Kyeyune said.

He said when President Museveni also launched the Universal Primary and Secondary Education schemes in 1997 and 2007 respectively, he “touched an important part of development” as many students can now access education.

This year, President Museveni also launched the students’ loans scheme to enable talented students who can’t afford tuition to complete school and pay back later.

“This shows our President has a vision for the country,” Kyeyune said.

Tage Budolfsen, the director of the charity organisation Swiss African Village that built the school, said Uganda was helpful to donors despite the bureaucracy they suffer when processing licenses to start schools.

“There is a lot of bureaucracy. But when the ministry realizes the construction of schools will help them, they are supportive and process the licenses,” said Budolfsen.

He added that the enabling environment does not only end with the government but it also extends to the citizens and the communities.

“There is security in the country and support from the local leaders and the community who support the schools we build”, Budolfsen said.

Budolfsen explained that the development of Uganda is crucial in cementing trading partnerships between Europe and Uganda.

“As donors, we like to see development taking place in Uganda because this helps in maintaining our trading relations,” said Budolfsen.

The Kids Pioneer School is part of the Swiss African Children’s Village, a registered charity organisation in Uganda and Switzerland.
