Govt locked in meeting with MPs as special session delays

The special parliamentary session to honour the departed Butaleja woman MP Cerinah Nebanda has been delayed as Chris Baryomunsi’s team is locked in a meeting with the Speaker and a government team.

Chris Baryomunsi (Kinkizi West), Medard Bitekyerezo (Mbarara Municipality) Sam Lyomoki, all medical doctors have been carrying out parallel investigations into the sudden death of Nebanda last Friday.

The MPs had commissioned pathologist Dr. Sylvester Onzivua to take tissue samples of Nebanda’s body to South Africa for independent investigations but was intercepted at the airport by the Police and put under arrest. 

The arrest ground to a halt the earlier scheduled special parliamentary session on Tuesday as a heated debate about the circumstances surrounding Nebanda’s death took centre stage. Onzivua was released from Police custody Thursday afternoon.

The MPs are expected to present their report today before the special session that was slated to kick off at 10.00am, but has been delayed by the meeting.

The parallel investigations have been condemned by government in a press briefing that was held at media centre Thursday afternoon.
