Sylvia Owori wins coveted award at Afrikan Fashion Walk

After a successful awards ceremony in 2011, Afrikan Fashion Walk Awards returned to Kampala to showcase East Africa’s finest.

After a successful awards ceremony in 2011, Afrikan Fashion Walk Awards returned to Kampala to showcase East Africa’s finest.

Founded by Daudi Baraka, the 2012 awardS covered three countries: Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. The Afrikan Fashion Walk awards are an annual event where new labels and new collections are showcased.

The event that started at 9:30 pm, an hour later than the slated time, blended music performances with some runway activity, at cayenne Lounge, last Thursday.

The designs on display were made of African fabrics. The Kenyan based Russian designer, Galina Tatarinova, and our very own Raphael Kasule, Dorah Barungi, and Sylvia Awori were some of the major fashion designers to showcase their work.

Halima Namkula won the 2011 best female fashion sensitive personality award, Sudeep Mohanty scooped this year’s best male fashion sensitive personality award.

Raphael Kasule received the award for best male designer of the year, Tonny Bulenzi won the award for best upcoming designer, and the best fashion female sensitive personality award, above 36yrs went to Dr. Maggie Kigozi.

The overall model award, went to Theresa Mwende. Sylvia Owori won the best designer of the year award. Fashion runway Uganda scooped best fashion event award of the year.

The media choice designer award of the year went to Stella Atal, who was not pesent to receive it because she was running her fashion show at another venue. The award for best fashion writer went to Keteruah Kamgash

Capt. Mike Mukula, Bobi Wine and the two time winner of best bridal designer of 2011-2012-Brenda Maraka attended.
