A Ugandan artiste has been fined sh200, 000 for reckless driving among other traffic offences.
 

Tonny Lubega a.k.a Red Banton known for singing dance hall music was arrested on Tuesday morning and detained at Katwe police station.


He was charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving a motor vehicle in a poor mechanical condition and driving without a driving permit.
 

The Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP), Christopher Sonko confirmed that Lubega spent a night in Katwe police cell and later fined Shs200, 000 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

He adds that after realising that Lubega’s health wasn’t good, he decided to give him a free police bond.
 

Lubega is to report at Katwe police station on Monday.
 

He adds that Lubega’s vehicle, a black Toyota Corona UAJ 967s is still impounded at Katwe police station till when he clears the Shs200, 000 fine.
 

Sonko said that on September 30, 2014 at 11:00am one of his traffic officers saw Lubega joining Entebbe road from Mirambi driving at very high speed .
 

“He almost collided with one of the vehicles coming from Kampala and a traffic police officer,” he said.


Sonko said they filed a case against him on file number TR/15/30/09/2014.


Lubega said that he drunk alcohol from Monday night but didn’t have any intention of knocking a traffic officers and it’s the reason why he stopped immediately.
