Also to have benefited from the promotions are Police Special Investigations Division (SID) boss Charles Kataratambi; Beata Chelimo (women affairs), Police spokesperson Fred  Enanga and his other deputies, Polly Namaye and Patrick Onyango.

A bulk of the promotions were in the group of non gazetted officers where 2843 were elevated from the rank of Constable to Corporal; Sergeant to Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) or from AIP to Inspector (IP).

In the gazetted category apart from renewing contracts of AIGPs often known as director, Museveni promoted 335 senior officers to various ranks, elevating three of them – Dr. Steven Kasima (Traffic); Joseph Mugisa (Fire) and Lemmy Twinomugisha (Parliament) to the rank of AIGP.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the promotions take effect retrospectively.

“The promotions are with immediate effect from October 1, 2014. The IGP congratulates all the officers upon their promotion and urges them to work even harder,” Enanga said in a statement issued early Friday morning.
