UPC ask Museveni to sack minister Kibuule

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has requested President Yoweri Museveni to relieve the youth and children affairs minister, Ronald Kibuule, of his duties over what they called “reckless remarks about sexual violence against women”.

While opening a youth camp at Kitatya village in Kayunga district on Saturday, Kibuule reportedly said women are to blame for being raped due to their indecent dressing.

“The minister has shown that he is unfit to hold that office. He is quoted as having said that women dress indecently and as a result men rape or defile them. Two wrongs can’t make a right,” said UPC spokesperson Okello Lucima.

“The minister implies that the women who get raped and little girls who are defiled deserve it because of the way they dress,” he added.

Addressing the UPC weekly press briefing at Uganda House yesterday, Lucima called on Kibuule to consider resigning before the President sacks him.

“How can a minister in a government that claims it has done a lot to empower women, minimise the horror of rape, sexual violence against women and girls as self-inflicted due to the manner of dressing?”
