Vicky Namuyanja returned to the victory podium after overcoming Sharon Mirembe 7-3 to win the Pool Queen Championship on Saturday.

The Skin Samona player who last tasted victory in the Easter Cup in 2011 proved that she is still the woman to beat at Lumas Pool Arena.

“It was not an easy victory. I think this is the beginning of better things to come for me,” said Namuyanja after fighting from behind to win the crown.

The number six seed who stopped Zainab Nambafu 5-3 in the semi-finals dethroned Carol Kanzira who fell out in the first round of the event exclusively contested for by women.

From soccer to pool Former football player Sharon Mirembe who beat Rita Nimusiima in the other semi-final started off as she led 2-0. But Namuyanja clawed back into contention dictating the pace with accurate shots.

The feat earned Namuyanja a top prize of sh1m and a pool table from Pool Association of Uganda.

The championship that drew 64 participants served as a build up for the All Africa Championship due in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania next month.
