The embattled Buyaga West legislator, Banarbas Tinkasiimire, has denied allegations of being involved in the mysterious disappearance of his estranged wife Lynn Mbabazi.

“Mbabazi left home when I was not around and when I tried to bring her back home, she refused,” Tinkasiimire said on Sunday during a telephone interview with a local FM radio station in Kibaale.

Tinkasimire said whatever is being peddled against him is just meant to tarnish his image. Different media houses last week reported that Mbabazi went missing, alleging that Tinkasiimire was behind the disappearance.

The legislator described his marriage to Mbabazi as a "deal gone bad", adding that he had decided to forego Mbabazi. He said she did not want to be married and could not be forced.

Tinkasiimire said he separated with Mbabazi in February this year and has not been in touch with her since.

The MP added: “I left her with everything”. Independent sources have since linked Mbabazi’s “disappearance” to sale of the car that the MP had given her.

Without disclosing her whereabouts, Mbabazi’s father, Amos Bakeine, said he had spoken on phone with his daughter.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said that the Special Investigations Division (SID) of police had taken over the case file to continue with investigations.

Mbabazi had recorded a statement with the police in relation to a dispute between her and Tinkasimire over a Toyota Nadia, car registration number UAT 762K. She had also recorded a statement after reportedly receiving death threats.

Bakeine said, “While my family and I would love to share with you the detailed story about the ordeal she went through before regaining her freedom, we are obliged to support the work of the Police in their endeavor to apprehend her captors.”

Mbabazi made contact with her family on Saturday, eight days after she was reported missing. Mbabazi’s father on Monday said although she is traumatised and disoriented, she is alive and safe.
