KAMPALA - A Senior Two student in Kampala who was kidnapped by unknown people while on his way to school on mid-last week has been found alive by police.

Samuel Namanya, 18, a student of Vienna High School, was allegedly kidnapped at about 6:30am local time on Wednesday, on his way from home in Simbwa zone, Kabowa Parish in Rubaga division.

The kidnappers had demanded a sh20m ransom from his mother Sedridah Natukunda, 42, a businesswoman in Owino market.

Police sources on Sunday told New Vision that Namanya was rescued from his captors on Saturday after an intense operation by security operatives. The victim’s condition and details of the operation have not been revealed.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) boss at Katwe Police Station, under Emmanuel Ayebare, on Sunday confirmed that Namanya had been found.

The head of Police’s elite Flying Squad unit, Herman Owomugisha led the investigation to find the student, trailing the kidnappers through several city suburbs during the search operation.

Namanya’s captors had asked her to deposit the ransom on two mobile phone numbers lest they kill him.

They had also asked that she makes a deposit of sh98,000 on the numbers before she could talk to him.
