KAMPALA - State sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi has suspended Nakivubo board chairperson Geoffrey Kisekka for failure to call board meetings and cooperate with board members.

The decision was taken on Monday after a meeting between the minister and the board members at the ministry’s boardroom.

“He has failed to call a board meeting ever since he was re-appointed as chairman and has failed to work with other members on drawing up a strategic plan for the stadium,” Bakkabulindi explained.

The development follows media reports about irregular developments at the stadium that are likely to endanger fans. Kisekka did not attend the meeting though he was informed.

“I have appointed Eddie Ssembatya as acting chairman with immediate effect and his first assignment is to see that the board comes up with a strategic plan for the stadium. Kisekka looks to be too busy in business that he has not been able to concentrate on the development aspect of the stadium,” said the minister.

A section of the stadium at the Kisenyi end has been turned into lock-up shops, threatening the safety of the stadium.

The board, that was named mid this year had Eddie Ssembatya as vice chairman, Minsa Kabanda (treasurer), Paul Waiswa, Andrew Kaweesa, Rogers Mulindwa, Hasfa Nabukeera, Jolly Alipa and Timothy Ayeko.
