A 45-year-old woman is in Police custody for allegedly murdering her husband after a domestic wrangle.

Central northern regional Police spokesperson Manshur Suwed identified the suspect as Milda Awumu, a resident of Agege village in Bala subcounty, Kole district.

Awumu allegedly cut her husband John Aber’s ribs with a sharp hoe, ending his life instantly.

Suwed said the incident took place on last Wednesday morning at around 5:00am after the couple quarrelled over sh390, 000 got from the sale of their cow.

He added that Awumu, on realising that her husband was dead, went into hiding, but handed herself over to the Police on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Awumu explained that they gave their first-born son a cow to sell and solve some of his problems, but after the cow was sold at sh390, 000, her husband demanded for the money.

“He came home drunk on Monday and demanded for the money. On Tuesday, I went to work, while he went to drink. He returned at around 10:00pm and quarrelled up to 5:00am, when we started fighting,” she said.

“Accidentally, I hit him in the ribs with a hoe and he died. My intention was not to kill him,” Awumu added.

Awumu, who is a mother of five, said her woes with her husband started a long time ago when he neglected the family and embarked on heavy drinking, a habit that led to the loss of his manhood.

She added tearfully that because of his lost manhood, her husband quarrelled with her almost every day and monitored her everywhere she went.

Awumu pleaded for pardon so that she returns home to look after her children, saying three are married, but two are studying, with the youngest son in Primary five and second last born in Senior One.

“I am the one who has been paying school fees for all of them,” she said.
