The Nnabegereka of Buganda Kingdom, Sylvia Nagginda, will tomorrow launch the seventh youth camp that brings together different young people of diverse backgrounds to address issues of teenage pregnancy.

According to the chief executive officer of Nnabegeraka Development Foundation (NDF), Solome Nakaweesi Kimbugwe, the launch will take place at Bulange’s Gardens Mengo in Kampala.

Nakaweesi said her Highness will be joined by the Kingdom’s premier Peter Mayiga and other dignitaries.

The youth camp (Ekisaakaate) was conceived by Nagginda in 2007 and it has now become a household name.

She enumerated the objectives of the youth camp as appreciating rather than shun cultural identity and tradition, respecting the world’s diverse cultures, nurturing young girls and boys into holistic and versatile individuals.

The other aims are character formation and personality development as well as adopting culture as a positive and important foundation for self-development.

Nakaweesi explained that the events will be hosted in two venues namely; St. Lawrence Citizen High School-Crown City Campus (January 4-18, 2015) and Blessed Sacrament Secondary School Kimanya in Masaka district from December 7-14, 2014.

This year’s event organized by NDF will be held under the theme: “Teenage Pregnancy” while for 2015 will be “A Radiance for Self Esteem and Growth.”

She said the choice of the theme was developed from the radiance exuded by the fire and therefore, culture exudes a belief in oneself.

“It’s against this background that we came up with a theme that portrays culture as something that emits a warm soft light (radiance) that leads to raising ones esteem and growth,” says Nakaweesi.

She said this year’s youth camp will focus on growing participants’ appreciation of their individual and Uganda’s diverse culture.

“In the process we shall raise their self- esteem and also point them towards path for their growth mainly at both individual and national levels and appreciate group dynamics of the country,” she said.

Nakaweesi underlined study areas the young people aged 6-18 years will be taught includes; security and justice, leadership skills, discipline and responsible citizens, decorum and etiquette, health and fitness.

Other areas of interest are sexuality, spiritual growth, language, housekeeping, traditional and contemporary dance, arts and expression, music and drama, culinary arts and wealth creation and others.

During the launch guests will be entertained by pupils from Gayaza junior, and Green Hill Academy and students from Trinity College Nabbingo.

Participants of the youth camp are expected to pay sh260, 000 to cater for tuition and registration fees.
