Museveni congratulates Obama

President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated his American counterpart Barack Obama upon his victory and clinching a second term in the White House.

“Congratulations to President Barack Obama on your re-election, we wish you the best,” Museveni responded to a tweet Obama sent out to the world.

 At about 7.00am today, Obama sent out a tweet to the world: "Four more years". Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi responded soon after: "@Barack Obama Congratulations from Uganda. A victory so well deserved!"

“We congratulate president Barrack Obama upon his victory. We support and respect the decision of the Americans for entrusting him with a second term as president,” Ugandan Foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa told the New Vision Wednesday morning in a phone interview.

 Kutesa was optimistic that Uganda-U.S. relations will continue to blossom.

Obama defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney in a tight race.

Republican Mitt Romney conceded the U.S. presidential election to President Obama early on Wednesday morning after a bitterly fought battle.

"This is a time of great challenges for America and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation," Romney told supporters after calling Obama to congratulate him.

Obama defeated Romney in a series of key swing states, despite the weak economic recovery and stubbornly high unemployment that dogged his campaign.

Television networks called the election late on Tuesday, but the Romney campaign waited more than an hour to agree on the results in Ohio.
