Eight-man team set for world junior boxing event

Three-time Olympian Charles Lubulwa has given the national junior boxing team a thumbs up ahead of the World Boxing Championship due later this month.

The former long serving national team captain described the eight-man team as a promising squad for the national side.

“The boys’ fitness level is good. They are adapting very fast. This is a very promising team which can deliver good results,” the former Bombers’ captain remarked at the team workout at East Coast gymnasium in Naguru on Wednesday.

Lubulwa who represented Uganda at the 1980, 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games, is part of the technical team for the championship due November 27 to December 7 in Yerevan, Armenia.

The eight-man squad was picked from 60 boxers by a technical team appointed by the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC).

The team that is currently loading punching power has light flyweight Juma Fazil, flyweight Rogers Semitala, bantam Emmanuel Nsubuga, light weight Bob Moses and light welterweight David Ochan.

Others are welterweight Joseph Sekatte, middleweight Ben Katamba and Musa Ntege. The best five boxers in the team will make the trip to Armenia.
