Family members of the late Capt. Geoffrey Burashana, the fallen Military Police spokesperson, have asked church to pray for them to break the curse of accidents which has become synonymous with fatalities in the family.

Burashana 38, died instantly in a car accident on Wednesday night on his way to Kampala, after sustaining a deep cut on his head and broken neck, when a car he was traveling in collided with a speeding omni-bus in Zana along Entebbe road.

The late was buried at his ancestral home in Kinoni, Rushere, Kiruhura district on Saturday.
At the time of his death, Burashana was attached to the National ID project.

Speaking at the funeral service of the deceased at the Church of Resurrection (Church of Uganda) in Bugolobi, Burashana’s uncle, Steven Kacumu lamented the loss of four family members to accidents.

“Even our father died in an accident. Now it’s Burashana. It is very painful that we are dying of nothing else but accidents,” he lamented.

“Why only accidents in our family? Can’t we die of anything else like other people? I ask church and other people to pray for us. It is a curse that can only be broken by divine power. We shall quit the church if nothing is done,” he said as he sobbed.

Kacumu described the late as loving, disciplined and committed officer.

He thanked the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) for supporting and comforting their family since the tragedy occurred.
Speaking with grief, Molly Asiimwe the deceased’s sister, astonished mourners when she revealed that the late left no wife and kid. “We were just preparing to see that he gets married but it has not happened. It is so painful,” she noted.

Steven Burashana a brother to the deceased also told mourners that accidents had claimed several family members.

“We have a problem in our family. We do not understand why, our family is left with a few people and nothing kills us but road accidents. Burashana was a strong pillar in our family,” he said.

The deceased’s friend, Kayemba Kevebulaya said Burashana survived six accidents in his company.

“Even my car perished when I was in the company of Burashana at Kyabadaza along the Kampala-Masaka highway in 2010.
He even called me to join him in Entebbe but I was busy. I can count a total of six accidents he survived,” he said.

The commandant, military police, Col Emmanuel Kanyesigyire said they had lost a potential leader for higher positions.

In his condolence message read by the deputy 2nd division commander, Col Fred Akiiki, the Chief of Defense Forces, Katumba Wamala described the late as a dedicated, experienced and disciplined officer.

Commander Lands Forces, Gen David Muhoozi said the force was saddened by the loss of a great young soldier.
“He was calm, friendly and simple. I urge other young officers to be disciplined and leave a legacy like Burashana. No one knows the time,” he said.

Chief of Staff Air Force, James Murungi described the late as a brilliant man who was disciplined and articulate.

The minister of justice and constitutional affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire said the late was not a pretender. “It is very sad that God takes good people quickly and leaves the bad ones to stay leave longer,” he said.

In his summon, Rev Samuel Kanyike urged the family to always stick to God. “Don’t allow anything to divert you. Keep on praying as we pray for you,” he added.
