Coach Multin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has revealed that Uganda Cranes victory against Guinea is a result of a ‘war’ the team has declared in the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.

Uganda has not qualified for the top Africa soccer showpiece since 1978 and the team has on several occasions missed out by a whisker.

But in a post-match press conference, Micho said that they had resolved to work as a team and end the trend and qualify for Morocco next year.

Uganda Cranes put up a spirited fight at Mandela National stadium, Namboole last night with lead striker Geoffrey Massa snatching a first half brace to end the match 2-0.

“This is a war of six football battles. We are not big on paper and not even in name but the players have decided to end the trend of not qualifying. Massa has scored the two goals but I give credit to all the players,” Micho explained.

“We shall continue to handle match by match. This is a football war not beauty contest.

We still have 12 points at stake,” Micho, flanked by his team captain at the press conference emphasised as he beamed with confidence.

Micho’s counterpart Michel Dussuyer blamed his team for undermining the Cranes right from the word go. He was however quick to add that they were very much still in the race to qualify. Guinea beat Togo 2-1 in their campaign opener.

“We lost the match because we were not aggressive. It made the game very difficult to play because we lost the match in the first half. It has always been complicated for us to play away. We will have to do better to beat Ghana,” Dussuyer told journalists.
