Police unearth details on ghost pensioners

The Police have recovered more records with details on the sh10b that was paid to over 3,000 ghost pensioners between July and September.

The files were recovered in a morning raid at the public service offices on Sunday.

 The Police officers unearthed the files in the company of three ministry accountants and one office attendant.

The office attendant was there to help them recover the files and show the Police on how the ghost system operates.

The Police say David Oloka and Steven Lwanga, all accountants in the Pension Cash Office and Fred Tumusime, an office attendant in the department of pensions, are linked to the sh169b scam.

The three men remain detained at Kireka based Special Investigations Unit.

In what the detectives called a marathon search, the director for Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Directorate (CIID), Grace Akullo, said the Police were matching names of the pensioners from the files in the accountants’ office and those on the computers on the pensions desk to see if they vary.

“Records at Public Service show that it is not only Cairo International Bank (CIB) cooperated with the suspects.

But there are other banks in which implicated official was comfortable to make the transactions for the ghost.
