The construction of the chiefs’ houses was a historic event which demonstrated Government’s commitment to the recovery and development of Northern Uganda and is a true testimony to the resolve of the President to instil confidence in the traditional leaders of the North.

The construction of the chiefs’ houses was a historic event which demonstrated Government’s commitment to the recovery and development of Northern Uganda and is a true testimony to the resolve of the President to instil confidence in the traditional leaders of the North.

The construction of houses for the Acholi chiefs acted as a confidence building strategy for the Internally Displaced Persons to return to their ancestral homes.

The construction of the chiefs’ houses used the hydraform technology. The hydraform technology was preferred to conventional methods because it was projected to take a far less time for the constructions, was easy to adapt to community needs and is environmentally friendly since it would not require cutting trees for the burning of bricks.

During the construction, the Office of the Prime Minister trained about 300 youths and about 200 Police officers in Northern Uganda the use of the hydraform technology. Read more

The Karamoja region had always been regarded as arid, backward and only capable of surviving on alms by Donors and Government continues to surprise many as we witness a positive turn around through increased food production, improved access to water for animal and domestic use. Click for more

Government has addressed the issue of Health and Sanitation by improving health services in Karamoja. Moroto Hospital has been upgraded to provide specialised health services in the region. Houses for health personnel were constructed. The most vulnerable persons in the region are also being helped in different aspects of life. Read more

Since 2007 the GoU and the European Union have been working together to make the implementation of the PRDP a success. In July 2010, this partnership was further strengthened with the launch of two new programmes in support of the PRDP and the KIDP: the Northern Uganda Agricultural Livelihoods Recovery Programme (ALREP - € 20 million) and the Karamoja Livelihoods Programme (KALIP - € 15 million). Both programmes are funded by the EU and implemented by OPM through a Programme Management Unit. The projects are set to run until September 2014. Read more

Located to the north of Kampala, Luwero triangle was the fighting base of the 1981-1985 National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle that emerged following the disputed 1980 elections.
