Tornado B won and Tornado lost. And just like that, the race for the 2014 national cricket title moved one step closer to the finish line.

Syrus KibuukaMusoke scored 65 runs and Davis Karashani claimed 4/30 as defending champions Tornado B outlasted the Wanderers by two wickets at Lugogo and stretched their lead atop the table to 15 points.

Tornado have a game in hand and still have to play Tornado B in the second round but their one-wicket reverse to the Challengers on Sunday at Lugogo put their title push out of their hands, the last thing they needed chasing a team that has not lost a league game in one and half years.

Tornado were undone by a batting display that yielded 4/13 to Akmal Mohammed and a meagre total of 130 runs in 33.5 overs. Aneef Mohammed then scored 34 runs to help the Challengers reach 131/9 in 35.5 overs to record their fifth win of the season.

The Wanderers were once again led by Ham Kayondo with a blistering 69 off 39 but Tornado B’s depth in quality was always going to carry the day.
