Police are hunting for ruthless thugs who are believed to have beheaded a mother and her 14-year old son, Hakim Kato, in their house at Katikamu village, Kyesiga Sub-county in Masaka district.

Hundreds of shocked mourners who thronged the village for the burial of the deceased on Monday asked the Police chief, Lt Gen. Kale Kayihura to intervene in the matter.

“The brutal way the deceased persons were killed is scaring us; we need expert investigators to handle this case,” Paul Mugadde, the LC3 Chairman for Kyanamukaka, said.

He noted that it was strange that a relative of the deceased identified as Nakalawa was killed in the same manner a fortnight ago in the same village.

The assailants are believed to have broken into the deceased’s house on Sunday night after cracking a hole in the wall of the sitting room.

Family sources told the New Vision that after entering the house they locked one of the occupants in one of the bedrooms but the little boy woke up and saw them.

The assailants then grabbed him and beheaded him before proceeding to the mother’s bedroom and meting the same treatment. They then stole a motorcycle and fled, leaving behind a grotesque scene of death.

The New Vision has learnt that the assailants first attempted to break into the house by digging a hole under the house and on another occasion they tried to remove the iron sheets.

Last year at least 60 people were murdered in the two sub-counties of Kyanamukaka and Kyesiga sparking off heavy deployment of Police and UPDF troops.

The deployment followed reports of suspected rebel movement in the area.
