Soccer referees Brian Nsubuga and Ronnie Kalema have beaten the FIFA fitness requirement paving the way for their appointment as international match officials.

Last year both referees failed the FIFA fitness test and were struck off the list where they had served for two years.

The FUFA referees standing committee organised a test at Mandela National Stadium over the weekend where all the top centre and assistant referees passed.

The top-ranked 40 match officials included eight women.

A group of 113 other local referees also undertook the test which saw one man and two ladies fail the running task.

The test included a 40-metre sprint which centre referees have to cover in not more than 6.2 seconds.

The referees are also tested in endurance where they run 150m in not more than 30 seconds and a walking interval of 50m below 35 seconds for the male centre referees.

Retired FIFA referees Ali Kalyango, Ali Tomusange and Mohammed Seggonga conducted the exercise.

“We will soon sit to decide the names to forward to FIFA,” said the chairman for the FUFA referees standing committee Sam Mpiima.

FUFA president Moses Magogo also witnessed the exercise.
