The Police have deployed heavily around the US embassy and European missions, following reports of planned protests over a movie that has provoked anger among Muslims.

Various sects of Muslims in different countries have been attacking embassies of the US and its allies, following a fi lm which reportedly demonized Islam and Prophet Mohammed.

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said: “We have deployed more policemen around the embassies to avoid any surprise attacks from those intending to demonstrate. No embassy consulted us, but it is our mandate as Uganda Police Force to maintain law and order in the country.”

The Police is also working with other security agencies to monitor the situation. Nabakooba said the move was a precautionary measure against any kind of violence that might come up. She said according to intelligence, a section of Muslims in the country were planning to demonstrate over the movie.

She warned that the Police would not allow any demonstration because it was illegal, adding that their officers were patrolling different areas to monitor the situation at mosques and other areas countrywide.
