Crops and property worth millions of shillings have been destroyed due to heavy rain coupled with hailstorm in Sanga Sub County in Kiruhura district.

Banana plantations of over 74 families, cassava, beans were destroyed; roofs of five houses and two churches, two toilets of Sanga Sub County and Sanga SS were also destroyed.

Fred Kabyogamu one of the affected farmers said his 8-acre of banana plantation was affected by the hailstorm.

“We got a disaster of heavy hailstorm which destroyed our property and crops; I have nothing to eat and to feed my family. It destroyed my plantation and it was my only source of income to look after my family and pay school fees for my children who are all in secondary school,” Kabyogamu lamented.

He appealed to well-wishers, local leaders and the government to come for their rescue and give them food since banana was their only source of income and food they depend on.

Florence Kabongoya, a 70 years old widow also lost her banana plantation.
