RUGBY Cranes tactician Herbert Wafula put on brave face but the absence of four key players drains the squad that leaves today for the Safaricom Sevens due in Nairobi this weekend.

A knee injury has ruled out Scott Oluoch for three weeks, Michael Wokorach is out of the country, Phillip Wokorach is concentrating on his A’ Level examinations while Brian Kikawa is performing at a music show this weekend.

“We selected the best team from the available players. The team we have still gives us the depth required in such a tournament. In fact we have been given a second slot so we shall take two teams. It gives us an opportunity to give more players international exposure,” Wafula remarked.

The team that leaves by road tonight will arrive in Nairobi tomorrow morning and train at Nyayo Stadium in the afternoon.

Timothy Mudoola and Tony Luggya travel as manager and team doctor respectively.

Zimbabwe and Namibia pulled out of the two-day gala that kicks off on Saturday prompting organisers to give Uganda a second slot.

Cranes squad: M. Ochwo (capt), A. Kamanyire, R. Ogwal M. Odong J. Anguyo O. Kalyango, E. King-asia, B. Kizza, L. Wakabi, J. Kimono, J. Ochan and J. Onen.
