The leader of opposition in Parliament Nathan Nandala Mafabi who is eying the presidency of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has said his party has been losing out in the country's presidential elections because it lacks structures.

"I want to build FDC to become strong and take over power in 2016 because we cannot be the party in opposition all the time," Mafabi told journalists in Fort Portal, Kabarole district on Monday.

He blamed the current leadership of the party for failing to put in place a strong foundation that consists of party structures for easy mobilization at village levels.

Mafabi said if elected FDC party president, his first target will be to instill discipline in the party by operationalizing all its offices and ensuring that its documents like the constitution and manifesto are taken to the local people to make them understand what FDC can deliver.

"I have been in the struggle of fighting bad governance since 2001 up to now and we have not yet delivered the people of Uganda from bad governance. One of the reasons why am standing is to make sure we achieve our objective of removing bad governance from Uganda," Mafabi said.

The former FDC electoral commission boss, Maj. Rubaramira Ruranga who is heading Mafabi's campaign team said the party needs a person who will organize and change it for the betterment.

"As far as am concerned we are supposed to look for value and this will resolve all the problems in the party," Rubaramira said.

Other candidates in the race for the FDC presidency to replace Dr. Kizza Besigye in November are Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu and Tororo county MP Godfrey Ekanya who is also the shadow finance minister.
