Mbarara Schools demonstrate over power blackout

Students of two Schools and a technical institute in the western district of Mbarara on Monday demonstrated over power blackout.

STUDENTS of  two Secondary Schools and a technical institute in Rugando Sub -County, in the western district of Mbarara on Monday morning blocked the Mbarara-Kabale Highway during a demonstration over power blackout.

The Police fired tear gas to disperse the enraged students from Rugando Technical Institute, Rugando High School and Rugando College School who blocked the road with logs and stones.

Students also hurled insults and pelted stones to police smashing window screens of some vehicles.

They demanded government’s intervention to re-install of power transformer that developed a fault a month ago.

Police removed the barricades and managed to contain the rioting students.

Rwampara County MP, Vincent Mujuni Kyamadidi confronted the South-Western Deputy Police commander, Godfrey Makyeme demanding for the release over 10 students that were arrested during the demonstration.
