US donates to Muslim schools

The American Embassy has donated scholastic materials to a Muslim Secondary School in Sheema district. The materials include back packs, mathematical sets, rulers, pens and pencils.

Officials from the US Embassy headed by the acting general services officer in the US Embassy, Richard Saunders, were in Kabwohe SS to deliver the materials.
The team distributed over 400 backpacks with the message: “US Mission Uganda Supports Young Uganda Leaders for a Better Future.”
Saunders said the donation is part of the $300,000 the US government has allocated to engage Muslim youth in East Africa on issues of tolerance and leadership through education.
The project is funded by the Partnership for regional Eastern Africa counter-terrorism programme run by the US government.
“We hope this will create an opportunity for dialogue with students on issues of tolerance and extremism and allow us to correct misconceptions of us and Islam,” Saunders said.
The information assistant at the US Embassy, Dorothy Nanyonga, said many schools have received the donation. They include Gombe SS in Butambala; Kibiibi SS in Mpigi, Mariam High in Kisaasi and Mbogo High School Kawempe.
Others are Masaka parents in Masaka, Aisha Girls in Isingiro and Kabwohe SS in Sheema district.
The headmaster of Kabwohe SS, Aliyi Lwanga, hailed the US and appealed to Muslim parents to send their children to school.
