President Yoweri Museveni and others received Pearl of Africa Lifetime Achievements Awards for outstanding performance in social and economic transformation of Uganda

President Yoweri Museveni and high profile personalities on Friday received Pearl of Africa Lifetime Achievements Awards for their outstanding performance in social and economic transformation of Uganda

Museveni scooped the platinum category award which was received by former VP Dr. Specioza Wandira Kazibwe on his behalf.

The 28 personalities in platinum category got between 1000 and 2000 votes while the 34 gold category awardees had between 1000 and 1500 votes from the public.

Over 1000 personalities were nominated but only 64 passed.

Kampala City Capital Authority executive director Jennifer Musisi also received an award, which drew thunderous applause from the audience.

Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and his predecessor Prof Apolo Nsibambi were also recipients of awards.

Other government figures who received awards included third deputy Premier Moses Ali, minister of internal affairs, Hillary Onek, minister of education Jessica Alupo, Police chief, Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura and Gen. Elly Tumwine

Distinguished businessmen, bishops and others went away with awards in a colourful ceremony held at Imperial Royale presided over PM Mbabazi.

The personalities feature in the 2012 Uganda Who is Who Book of Records.

Pearl of Africa Lifetime Achievements Awards is meant to honour and recognise people who have made personal contribution towards the attainment of the United Nations Millenium Development Goals in Uganda.

It was organized by Public Opinions in conjunction with Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).
