Car robbers usually serial killers - Police

The Police have released a list of 210 of the 2,000 cars suspected to have been stolen from Kampala and smuggled across the border to eastern DR Congo and the Central African Republic.

The cars were allegedly stolen by two suspected notorious robbers identified as Musa Koloba and Moses Kalule, residents of Bwaise.

The Police allege that the suspects killed the owners before making off with their cars.

They believe that members of the racket are still at large, but that the two were the masterminds.

Judith Nabakooba, the Police spokesperson, says they are compiling another list of stolen cars.

“The system is still manual and we could not release the whole list at once.

“All the victims, whose car registration numbers have appeared, should contact the Police and record statements as investigations into the matter continue,” she added.

Kalule, 40, is a suspected serial killer and car robber who was allegedly operating in East and Central Africa.

He was arrested on Wednesday evening in Nateete, a city suburb in Rubaga division.

According to the Police, at the time of the arrest, Kalule was planning for the transit of a fleet of cars robbed by Koloba out of Kampala to Congo.

The Police say Kalule has been linked to Koloba, the notorious car robber, who was also arrested early this week on Tuesday.

Koloba would rob and tamper with the identities of the stolen cars before their transit to Congo for sale.

Koloba, who is nursing bullet wounds at Mulago Hospital, was shot and injured together with two others when the Police foiled their robbery mission.

According to the Police, Kalule had been put on a wanted list by the International Police over various car robberies and murders in the region.

It is alleged that Kalule has been killing most of his victims by stabbing or shooting them, before taking off with their cars.

“Kalule has a number of stolen motor vehicles whose victims were killed as he executed his duties in various countries across the region,” a Police source attached to the newly-established Violent Crime Intelligence and Operations Unit, said.

The source notes that most of the cars retrieved from Kalule’s garage in Bwaise belong to deceased Kenyans, South Sudanese, Congolese and Burundian nationals.

All finger prints lifted by Police from the cars, match those of Kalule, one of the investigating officers in the case revealed.

“Kalule is filthy rich and has been paying off Police officers in various countries to ensure quick release whenever he was arrested,” the source revealed.
