Hoima district teams have started a joint training programme ahead of the National Primary Schools Ball Games. The event, starting in Hoima on Wednesday, will end on August 20.

The games will feature age categories of U-12 and U-14 for boys and girls. Teams from 112 districts and 22 municipalities will compete for honours in football, netball, volleyball and handball.

Hoima teams with over 87 boys and girls are training under 12 instructors. The teams will begin action after the training programme at Hoima Public Primary School.

Hoima District Sports Officer Amon Zondera said that a total of 10 grounds have been prepared for the event where over 6,000 participants are to compete.

“You should expect high level of performance from our teams,” Zondera stated. The official said that there will be a screening exercise and skills test today and tomorrow. “Footballers are supposed to be tested in skills like dribbling, shooting and heading,” Zondera added.

He went on to say that there will be an opening ceremony before the first games begin tomorrow.
