THE Warriors have enhanced the stature of Ugandan cricket with their performances in the two elite East African cricket events this season.

Following the elimination of their counterparts Knights from both the East Africa Cup and Premier League, the Warriors are promising to push harder.

Lawrence Sematimba’s side are already through to the September 22 Premier League final and need to only beat the Kanbis Tigers on Sunday to make it to the September 23 Cup final also.

According to Warriors top-order batsman Martin Ondeko, his team have a national duty to do well the rest of the way.

“When we go out to play next week,” said Ondeko, “we will definitely be playing for the Knights and the rest of Ugandan cricket.

“It will be a difficult game but we will go in as favourites and we will come out guns blazing.”

The Tigers eliminated a weakened Knights side from the franchise series after edging them by seven runs in the T20 Premier League and two wickets in the Cup game.

The Warriors Cup meeting with Kenya’s Rift Valley Rhinos was washed out, giving the Ugandans victory courtesy of their better record going into the fixture.
