KAMPALA - Kyambogo University the second biggest Government higher institution of learning has been closed due to a lectures strike.

The University Council chairperson John Okedi Thursday announced the closure of the university and ordered the students off the campus by 5pm.

The closure comes after investigations into alleged mismanagement started on Wednesday in a bid to end the strike by the teaching staff.

A committee was set up this week to investigate the vice-chancellor, Isaiah Omolo Ndiege and 11 other university officials.

The lecturers accuse Ndiege of mismanaging the university, failing to respect the governing council and staff as well as failure to effectively run the university.

This is part of the over 20 cases filed against him.

Sources Wednesday said the acting education minister, James Bakkabulindi, met the lecturers and urged them to call off their strike while their grievances are being resolved.
