KYAMBOGO University lectures have again gone on strike after council revoked its decision to send the Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaiah Ndiege on forced leave.

Lecturers resolved to resume the strike during a general assembly held at Main hall on Tuesday.

This after the university council e on Tuesday revoked its order on the vice chancellor and top officials after realising that there were underlying legal and deep consequential implications by their directive. They had been sent on forced leave.

But according to Jackson Betihamah, the Kyambogo University Senior Staff Association (KYUASA) chairperson, they laid down their tools unless the VC goes on forced leave to allow free and fair investigations.

“The VC should either leave office or we lay down our tools,” he added.

The council has clearly stated that the university would be closed, should the staff refuse to return to work immediately.

"Closure will be the last option. But in case the staff refuse to return to work, we will have to close the university as we work out modalities to solve the issues," the university's publicist Lawrence Madete said.

The lectures are accusing Prof. Ndiege of mismanagement of the university, lack of respect for the governing Council and staff, and failure to effectively run the university. This is part of the over 20 cases they have filed against him.

Other top officers who had been instructed to step aside are University Secretary Samuel Akorimo, the academic registrar Rose Bwire, dean of students Winfred Buga, the dean faculty of arts and social science Cyprian Adupa, and acting dean faculty of engineering Daudi Mugisha.

Others were the heads departments of: civil and engineering- Micheal Kyakula, mechanical and production engineering-Francis Kidongo, and that of sociology and social administration-Deborah Mulumba.
