Police in Lira Tuesday morning foiled a planned demonstration by a section of disgruntled youth and supporters of the National Resistance Movement.

The demonstration was supposed to kick off at the NRM offices in Lira but the Regional Police Commander Michael Mugabi deployed heavily before they could move to the streets.

According to Mugabi, the youth wanted to demonstrate accusing both national and district leaders of denying them a chance to meet the President.

Willy Omodo Omodo, the NRM youth national vice chairman said they want to meet the President over a number of un-fulfilled pledges.

“Each time we plan to meet the President, we sabotaged and we felt a demonstration would serve a purpose and the message reaches the head of state,” Omodo said.
