Despite not having any qualified coach, Uganda boxers continued to shine with Juma Kaggwa assuring the nation of another medal after he advanced to the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland.

Kaggwa downed Ghanaian Tetteh Sulemanu on split point decisions to reach his first semi-final at the SECC Arena on Wednesday night.

He joins Super heavy weight boxer Mike Sekabembe, who also qualified for the semi-finals on Tuesday.

But the boxer will need to work on his endurance ahead of his fight against Northern Ireland’s Paddy Bernes on Friday, if he is to reach the finals.

Though he convincingly took the first round with his good jabs, Kaggwa could not contain a comeback by Sulemanu, who knocked him down in the second round but he managed to beat the referee’s count.  He had also already accumulated enough points that saw him take the second round.

The final bout was tough but he kept the distance to deny Sulemanu any hard punches. Against  Bernes, who has so far registered  two knockoutS from two fights, all coming in the third round, Kaggwa will need to be cautious.
