Eid al-Fitr is expected to be celebrated on Saturday or Sunday Sheikh Rajab Kakooza, the director for Shariah at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has said.

"Anyone who sees the moon on Friday evening should get in touch with UMSC and if it is not sighted that day, Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated the next day," he said.

In an interview with the New Vision on Thursday, Kakooza advised Muslims to stick to the foundations of Islam even after Ramadan.

"We encourage Muslims not to change their ways even when Ramadan ends. They should also celebrate Eid in the Islamic way," he advised.

Eid al-Fitr is a celebration to mark the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar. During Ramadan, Muslims worldwide fast and refrain from eating, drinking and sexual relations from dawn to sunset.

Fasting (Sawm) is the fourth among the five pillars of Islam. Others are belief in oneness of Allah (Shahadah), prayer (salat), giving alms (Zakat) and pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).
