Throughout last weekend, the Uganda Manufacturers Association New Exhibition hall was a hub of activity, during the fourth annual Bride & Groom Expo. With unbelievable sights and surprises at every turn, throngs of people flocked the premier wedding planning event, which played host to over 100 exhibitors. With breathtaking décor displays, music, fashion and so much more, the large hall buzzed with activity as excited couples started to visualise their dream wedding.

It was a remarkable three days that were crowned with a grand ceremony, where the expo’s finest exhibitors were honoured with awards. The different categories included Best Décor, Innovation and Customer Care, as well as the Best Small and Large Display.

With a judging panel that boasted of impartial experts, who had visited the stalls incognito over the three days, the winners deserved the recognition.

The winner of the Best Décor Category was Amka Events, whose stall immediately caught the eye. They had a beautiful silver, black and white theme, an animal print ruffled draping and a stunning floral centrepiece on the table. The first runner-up was Blessed Events, while Flex Impressions was second runner-up.

In the Customer Care Category, Photo ETC emerged as the winners for their exceptional customer care. It was their first time at the expo and Tessa Lwanga, the proprietor, gushed with enthusiasm at the recognition.

“I feel that we got value for money in terms of the overwhelming response from the thousands of people who came by our stall,” she said.

The first runner-up in the Customer Care Category was Sheraton Hotel, whose staff paid extra attention to each and every one who passed by their stall. The second runner-up was Amagara Skin Care.

The award for Innovation went to Sheraton Hotel for the amazing and classy displays that changed each day. First runner-up was Rosie Roots Events and the second runner-up was the Wedding Crashers Band, who entertained guests with classic love ballads.

The top three in each category received a certificate, while the winners also won space for a full page advert in the next issue of Bride & Groom Magazine.

Sheraton Hotel was awarded for the Best Small Display; their small stall was a show-stealer and they won a carpet hoover from Samsung. Sarah’s Cakes won the first runner-up, while Bloven Events was second runner-up.

For the Large Display Category, Flex Impressions took the award for their distinct stall that drew crowds. They presented a mini wedding that had magnificent lighting, music, large floral arrangements, favours and beautiful ushers in cute uniforms. They earned themselves a sofa set from Inspiring Interiors. The First runner-up was Amka Events, while Nina Interiors took the second runner-up position.

It came as no surprise when Flex Impressions was announced the overall Best Exhibitor, winning an air ticket to Dubai from Emirates. The company has never missed an expo since it started in 2009. Charles Lwanga, the proprietor, said they use the opportunity to show Ugandans what wedding services are supposed to be.

“First we set the standard, now we are raising the bar! We are always innovating and creativity is what we are about. Thank you for recognising that,” he said.

There were many other prizes won through raffle draws in the different promotions such as the V&A sherry, bag holders and T-shirts from V&A.
