UGANDA’S CECAFA representatives URA FC stormed the tournament’s quarterfinals yesterday after thumping DR Congo giants Vita 3-1 and declared: ‘Bring us any side.’

The tax collectors made it two wins in two games to move top of group A ahead of Vita and Tanzanian club Simba, who overcame Zanzibar outfit Ports with a 3-0 victory in the other group match.

However, URA’s progress came the hard way. Coach Alex Isabirye’s side had to fight from a goal down after Mutumbo Kazadi had helped Vita to the lead on 61 minutes.

The Ugandan side responded immediately with Sula Baagala’s goal in the 66th minute before taking the lead through substitute Erisa Sekisambu, five minutes later.

Sekisambu volleyed in Simon Masaba’s well-weighted cross from the right and last season’s league top scorer Robert Sentongo continued his impressive form with the third two minutes to stoppage time.

“We are now relieved that we lead group A. We did not have a good first half but my boys responded well in the second half. It’s unfortunate that I have registered some serious injuries with Oscar Agaba, Owen Kasule and yet even Yayo Lutimba is still down but we will fight on,” Alex Isabirye said after the game.

URA play hapless Ports on Friday and could face either Yanga, APR or Atletico from Group C in the quarterfinals. Cranes midfielder Mudde Musa impressed as Simba outwitted Ports in the second match of the day.
